Loki, how shall I praise you?

copyright 2000 by Carol Robe

Loki How shall I praise you? Let me count the ways:
I praise you to the depth and breadth and height
My words can reach, when feeling great delight
For your deep cunning and unique displays.
I praise you through the turning of all the days,
Not just at need, but by sun and lamplight.
I praise you freely, as I strive to cite.
I praise you purely, as I turn a phrase.
I praise you with a passion and enthuse
About your ways and will until my death.
I praise you with a praise I seemed to lose
With my reason,--I praise you with my breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! And if norns choose,
Then, I shall praise you when my breath has left.
